Philip Lynott was Ireland's first international rock star. Despite his untimely death over 25 years ago, the Crumlin born musician's songs and music are still enormously admired and much listened to. As a recent exhibition of his life and work demonstrated, he retains huge admiration and immense popularity not just among the Irish public but with people from around the world. Culled from extensive archive and featuring reminiscences from friends, colleagues and admirers this one hour programme reflects on the man, the myth and his music, and includes rare, much loved material from his band Thin Lizzy's 1970's heyday, along with the first screening of a fully restored version of the iconic 1982 Old Town pop promo.

He is just about ready to begin looking for the gold when an outlaw gang comes to town and forces him to help them rob an army payroll wagon. He then tries to abscond with the loot. The bandits torture him, shoot him, and leave him for dead. Then they shoot the blind father. The hero gets better and gets grisly revenge upon the outlaws. He saves a special treat for the gang leader. First he uses mud to blind him. Then he puts a gun in his hand and kills him. With screenplay writer Franco Rossetti (Django amongst others) moved himself successfully into the directing chair, but it remained his only spaghetti western. It is a well made film which tells a brutish story in a gritty and violent way.$

Visually, director Wayne Isham and his editor Jeff Richter do their best to keep up with the multimedia production: films, lighting, cued sounds, and dialogue are as important to Operation: Livecrime as the music. But enough of the convoluted story comes through to allow even the uninitiated to follow it. Musically, the band is in top form, especially singer Geoff Tate, who seems to hit notes most rock singers didn\'t even know existed.$
