60 Minutes: December 16, 2007 Don�t Ask, Don�t Tell; New Garden of Eden; The Mitchell Report Lesley Stahl reports on the obstacles and attitudes gays in the military face while serving their country. More than 20 retired, high ranking officers called for the repeal of the �Don�t ask, don�t tell� policy which is largely ignored anyway. Surprisingly, in many cases sexuality doesn�t seem to matter these days. The value of the soldier has grown to be more than their sexual orientation. Sgt Darren Manzella told his entire chain of command that he is gay, but no one seemed to care about that since he was an integral part of their unit. Next, a breathtaking visit to a remote mountaintop in Indonesia where, remarkably, new species continue to be discovered. A fascinating report which includes Bob Simon on this beautiful field trip with his guide, Bruce Beehler (Conservation International) and a host of rare, exotic creatures. Included is the exclusive (60 Minutes is the first to ever catch this on film) mating dance of a couple of rare birds, plus a recently discovered species.
